I’m Losing My Edge

I’ve been standing on the corner,
Of the terrace after the fifteenth floor;
Balanced quite precariously.
It’s a straight drop down-
1 car red, 2 cars blue, yellow taxi too.
The wind sounds really loud,
And the world sounds so faint.

Left foot, right foot, left foot- Pause.
Right foot, left foot, stumble, breathe.
Note to self: Do not wear heels.
I climbed the vertical step ladder,
And thew open the hatch to the roof-
Just to be able to say I made it.

I hadn’t considered I’d be on the edge-
With fragments of me blowing away.
I limped up these stairs,
Wearing every identity I could-
Regardless of how heavy it got.

I have been losing my edge,
Long before I was standing on it;
Feeling dizzy every time I look down.
The heels click like a metronome,
Keeping time to a time bomb-
Before I free fall all the way down;
I know I will someday.

But while I am on the edge,
I might as well paint a sunset-
With the sun sinking into his cloud blanket.
And in the cool moonlight,
That’s when I might lose my edge
And fall into the other side.
